Me and You, by Niccolo Ammaniti.

14 year-old Lorenzi Cuni lives in his mind, lives close to his mother, is ignored at school and wants to belong, so when he hears four students say they are going off on a ski week he lies to his mother and tells her, much to her relief, he’s invited.Β  Seeing no way to get out of the lie, he manages to circle back to his house and live in the basement for an adventurous week.
