Every Contact Leaves A Trace, by Elanor Dymott.

DymottIt always amazes me when a woman writes so convincingly in the voice of a man (how does she do that?)–and vice versa.  In this narrative, Alex Peterson tries to understand the wife he thought he understood after her mysterious murder.  Set in the halls and groves of British academe, it is also atmospheric.
